Sunday Scaries Volume 10

August 26, 2018

First - I'd like to say that I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the news of the shooting at the Madden NFL tournament in Florida. I've been to numerous gaming events this summer - and they're always such a blast. So much happiness & high energy. I listened to the live stream of when the shooting started and it sent chills through my whole body. My heart goes out to those who have been affected.

Drini Gjoka was playing in the tournament, and a bullet hit him in the thumb. Crazy crazy stuff.

RIP TrueBoy & Taylor Robertson

1. Purge - Bas

Dreamville signee Bas dropped his new album "Milky Way" two days ago, and I'm a big fan. With features from J. Cole, A$AP Ferg, and Ari Lennox, there are great tracks from top to bottom - but Purge stands out to me. He goes in on a Christo produced beat, and shows tons of improvement from his last releases.

2. Fuego - Manu Crook$

My "discover weekly" playlist from Spotify recently blessed me with an introduction to Manu Crook$ - an Australian hip-hop artist with craazy potential. Released in April, his single "Fuego" is his latest, and most impressive track - where he showcases his wicked flow over a beat from producer DOPAM!NE.

3. Chanel (Go Get It) - Young Thug feat. Gunna & Lil Baby

My favorite track off Young Thug's "Slime Language" that dropped a few weeks ago. Features Gunna and Lil Baby - two of the most dynamic young dudes in hip-hop right now. All in all - I miss Barter 6 Young Thug, but he has taken on the role of sensei for Gunna and Lil Baby, and I look forward to seeing them shape the rap game for the next few years.

 4. Cómo Me Quieres - Khruangbin

Last week I made a plug for Houston-based Khruangbin, but I feel like I really need to get my point across here. They are so so nasty. "Cómo Me Quieres" is the opening track from their latest album "Con Todo El Mundo," a perfect example of their incredibly unique and captivating sound.

5. Better Dayz - REASON

REASON is Top Dawg Entertainment's most recent signee. Those guys typically don't fuck around - so you know right off the bat that the guy has some talent. His single "Better Dayz" was just released two days ago, and I dig it. I'm assuming there's an album on the way - so get yourself acquainted.

6. No Cap - Gyyps feat. Peter $un

Gyyps released his latest mixtape "Internet Famous" about a month ago, but I been playing "No Cap" a ton recently so here it is. Produced by Mike & Keys - also features one of my favorite verses from Peter $un - who I think can go bar-for-bar with the best of 'em.

7. Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears for Fears

I saw someone playing this on the synth in a video on instagram a few weeks ago, and I think i've listened to it a thousand times since then. Comes from Tears for Fears' 1985 album "Songs From The Big Chair." It charted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. A timeless banger.

8. Ain't No Sunshine - The Equatics

The Equatics were a high school funk/soul group who released their first and only mixtape titled "Doin It!!!!" in 2009. "Ain't No Sunshine" is their interpretation of the Bill Withers masterpiece.
